Mission
Austin Poets International, Inc. (API), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, promotes literary excellence by uniting poets from around the world to celebrate the diversity of humanity through the power of written and spoken word.
What We Do
API’s three program activities are the Austin International Poetry Festival (AIPF), di-vêrsé-city Anthologies, and Youth Literacy.
AIPF includes unique Austin venues, diverse themed poetry readings, open mics, workshops, music & poetry, anthology readings, and panels. AIPF has hosted poets from over 50 countries from across the globe.
There are two di-vêrsé-city anthologies - one for adults and one for youth. Poets of majority age from around the world may submit candidate poems to the adult anthology. K-12 students submit to the youth anthology.
In addition to the youth anthology, API's Youth Program includes poetry readings, and workshops.

Overview
This website describes AIPF and offers ways to be involved with the country’s largest non-juried poetry festival. There are four activities covered by the site: Festival Attendance, Poetry Submission, API Membership, and Donations. Relevant information on each is presented under respective tabs on the website.
Festival attendance. The registration fee is $35 (discounted fee of $25 for documented full-time college students, API members, and seniors; free for K-12 students). This fee helps cover ordinary Festival expenses and helps support the free youth sessions. There are no other fees for panels, workshops, or open mics. Registration fees are tax-deductible.
Poetry Submission Fees for the adult anthology is handled by a submissions management platform (Submittable) that bills independently. The platform retains a small percentage of the $25 submission fee for its service and $10 is allocated to the Youth Literacy Program to cover K-2 Student Submissions and Anthology - both of which are free for students. The tax- deductible portion of the $25 fee is $15.
API Membership is a way to support poetry in the community on a regular basis. The membership fee ($30) covers the administrative costs of the organization; there is no obligation to be a member to attend the festival or to submit poetry. Membership fees are tax-deductible.
Donate is a way for individuals or businesses to do something extra to cover the costs of the festival that exceed the fees collected for attending. Donations are tax deductible.
API and AIPF are run by volunteers. The fee structure is carefully crafted to assure survival of the Festival while holding down costs for participants supporting both adult and youth literacy. As you navigate the website, keep in mind the ever-increasing costs of operation, the benefits to the youth of our communities, and the unbridled joy of novice poets who have a venue to share poetry with more experienced colleagues.
